Kendrick Lamar surprised fans by releasing his first album in two years with no prior announcement, igniting excitement among listeners. The 37-year-old rapper unveiled GNX on Friday, November 22, featuring a total of 12 tracks that heralded the return of one of hip-hop's most esteemed artists.
Just hours before the album dropped, the 17-time Grammy recipient teased audiences with a mysterious one-minute video for the title track. In this haunting visual, he exits a vehicle in an obscure garage and performs next to another car’s headlights. The clip concludes with Kendrick crouched over a piano in a dimly lit corridor, hinting at what is expected to be an expressive and thought-provoking work.
GNX is Kendrick's sixth studio effort and comes after the success of his previous release, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers from 2022. This year has solidified Lamar's dominance in music; notably, his summer rivalry with Drake resulted in the hit diss track Not Like Us which soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 while also earning five Grammy nominations.
As fans delve into GNX, discussions are already buzzing about how this project will influence Lamar’s forthcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show performance.
